Troubleshooting¶
Solutions for the most common issues encountered when building and publishing flows in the Menu Designer.
Validation Errors¶
These errors must be fixed before you can publish.
"Flow is empty"¶
Cause: The canvas has no nodes.
Fix: Add at least one node. Start with an Entry Point.
"No entry point defined"¶
Cause: There's no Entry Point node in the flow.
Fix: Open the Node Palette and click 🚀 Entry Point to add one.
"Multiple entry points found"¶
Cause: The flow has more than one Entry Point node.
Fix: Delete the extra Entry Point nodes — only one is allowed per flow. Click the unwanted Entry Point, open the Inspector, and click Delete Node.
"Entry point has no outgoing connection"¶
Cause: The Entry Point exists but isn't connected to any other node.
Fix: Drag from the green circle at the bottom of the Entry Point to the input handle (top) of your first node (usually a Welcome Message).
"Menu 'X' has no options"¶
Cause: A Menu node exists but has zero options configured.
Fix: Click the Menu node, open the Inspector, and click Add Option to add at least one choice.
"Menu 'X': option 'Y' has no route"¶
Cause: A menu option isn't connected to any target node.
Fix: On the canvas, find the unconnected option (small purple circle on the right of the Menu node) and drag it to a target node. Every option must be routed.
Check all options
If a menu has 5 options, each one needs its own connection. Click the Menu node and count the arrows coming out — there should be one per option.
"'X' is completely disconnected"¶
Cause: A node has no incoming AND no outgoing connections — it's floating on the canvas.
Fix: Either connect it to the flow (both in and out) or delete it if it's not needed.
"AI Chat 'X' has no fallback message"¶
Cause: The AI Chat node's fallback message field is empty.
Fix: Click the AI Chat node, open the Inspector, and add a fallback message (e.g., "Sorry, I couldn't find an answer. Try rephrasing, or type 'menu' for options.").
"Document/Image 'X' has no media source"¶
Cause: The Document or Image node has no file, alias, or URL configured.
Fix: Click the node, open the Inspector, and either:
- Click "Choose from My Documents" to pick an uploaded file, or
- Enter a direct URL to the file/image
Validation Warnings¶
Warnings don't block publishing but indicate potential issues.
"'X' is unreachable from the entry point"¶
Cause: There's no path from the Entry Point to this node. The customer can never reach it.
Fix:
- If intentional: You can ignore this warning (e.g., unused nodes you're keeping for later).
- If unintentional: Connect a path from the Entry Point (via other nodes) to this node, or delete it.
"Condition 'X' has no 'Yes'/'No' route"¶
Cause: One or both branches of a Condition node are not connected.
Fix: Connect both the ✓ Yes and ✗ No output handles to target nodes. Both branches should lead somewhere — even if they lead to the same node.
"'X' has no content"¶
Cause: A node's title and body/message are both empty.
Fix: Click the node, open the Inspector, and add text content.
"The flow contains a loop"¶
Cause: The designer detected a cycle (a path that loops back to an earlier node).
Fix: This is usually intentional — for example, a Message that connects back to a Menu. If the loop is deliberate, you can safely ignore this warning. If not, find and remove the edge that creates the cycle.
"'X' is a dead end"¶
Cause: A non-terminal node has no outgoing connections. The conversation stops here.
Fix: Connect the node to a next step — typically a Menu node to give the customer options, or loop back to the main menu.
Exception: Human Handoff
Human Handoff is designed to be a dead end — it's a terminal node. This warning doesn't appear for Human Handoff nodes.
Common Issues¶
Variables show as raw {{variable}} text¶
Cause: The variable was referenced before being captured, or the variable name doesn't match.
Fix:
- Ensure the Question node that captures the variable appears before the node that uses it.
- Check that the variable name matches exactly (case-sensitive, no spaces).
Menu options are truncated on WhatsApp¶
Cause: Option labels exceed the character limit for the selected menu type.
Fix: Check the character limits:
| Menu Type | Max Label Length |
|---|---|
| Quick Reply Buttons | 20 characters |
| List Message | 24 characters |
| Numbered Menu | 60 characters |
Either shorten the labels or switch to a different menu type.
Message is too long for WhatsApp¶
Cause: The message body exceeds 1,024 characters.
Fix: Shorten the message or split it into two separate Message nodes connected in sequence.
AI Chat always sends the fallback message¶
Cause: Usually one of:
- The Knowledge Base is empty or doesn't contain relevant content
- The confidence threshold is set too high
Fix:
- Upload relevant documents to your Knowledge Base
- Lower the confidence threshold (try 60% to start)
- Check the Prompt Override — it may be too restrictive
Flow doesn't start when a customer messages¶
Cause: Usually one of:
- The flow hasn't been published
- The Entry Point trigger doesn't match the customer's message
- The assistant isn't connected to the WhatsApp number
Fix:
- Click Publish to deploy the flow
- Check the Entry Point trigger — use "Any incoming message" for the broadest match
- Verify your WhatsApp registration in the Registration Guide
Customer gets stuck in a loop¶
Cause: The flow has a loop with no exit — every path leads back to the same menu without an option to leave.
Fix: Add an escape option to every menu:
- "Talk to Agent" → Human Handoff
- "Back to Main Menu" → top-level menu
- Set up interrupt keywords (menu, agent, stop) in Assistant Settings
Email notifications aren't arriving¶
Cause: Usually one of:
- The Send Email node isn't connected in the flow path
- The recipient email address is incorrect
- Emails are being filtered as spam
Fix:
- Verify the Send Email node is reachable from the Entry Point
- Double-check the email address (or the Support Email in Settings)
- Check spam/junk folders
- Make sure the email subject isn't triggering spam filters
